Choir Stalls

Fixed choir stalls can limit the forms taken by contemporary worship and the wide range of musical and community events which take place in churches. The result is that many churches are now commissioning more flexible seating which is still capable of fulfilling the needs of choirs. Treske have made a number of handsome replacements, many with innovative technical features.

St Martin-in-the-Fields, London
Commissioned by Eric Parry Architects for this famous church’s recent major refurbishment., Treske made new oak choir stalls and bench pews capable of seating the entire choir yet manoeuvrable and able to be raised up and down for performances and services.

Song School, Windsor Castle
To accommodate choristers of all sizes, these choir stalls have different height footrests. The new stalls allow easy access between and through them and replace old mismatched pieces.

St Mark’s, Harrogate
Under James Thorpe Architect, Treske made modern style choir stalls in ash, ply and formica which are easy to move to allow flexible use of the sanctuary space.

St Michael’s, Houghton-le-Spring
The choir use the same benches as the congregation but on the back there are removable readers. Designed to be light in weight yet strong enough to seat four people.
